Hervey Bay Start-up Aims to Revolutionise Textile Recycling
The Small Start-up With Big Plans to Change Textile Waste Forever
A new wave of textile recycling is rolling into Hervey Bay, and it’s being led by a small but mighty start-up determined to change the way the community thinks about clothing waste. What began as a simple idea “surely we can do better than landfill” has quickly grown into a local movement. The team has been collecting unwanted garments, rescuing fabrics from the brink of the tip, and proving that sustainability doesn’t have to be complicated. It just needs people who care enough to start.
But the real excitement lies in what’s coming next. The organisation is now working toward its biggest goal yet: saving for a textile shredder, the machine that will take their recycling efforts from “impressive” to “industry‑shifting.” With a shredder, they’ll be able to break down old textiles on-site and turn them into raw material ready for reuse insulation, stuffing, industrial rags, and more. It’s the kind of upgrade that transforms a community project into a serious circular‑economy player.
And Hervey Bay won’t have to wait long to see the impact. Plans are already underway to install donation bins across the region, making it easier for locals to drop off their pre‑loved clothing, old curtains or ripped bedding instead of tossing it in the general waste. More bins mean more textiles saved, more community involvement, and fewer textiles quietly disappearing into landfill.
It’s a big vision powered by small steps and Hervey Bay is watching a homegrown recycling revolution unfold right in its own backyard.
